Child Development Home in Northwest DC
This CDH project addresses challenges with an existing rear yard that the center’s owners wished to utilize as a play area. A mature tree on the property line had uprooted large areas of brick pavers and concrete slab. After re-grading and enhanced drainage layers, a new paver surfacing will provide a base that allows the tree roots to grow and a solid surface on which to hold activities. A new overhead rolling gate will allow vehicles to enter for occasional parking/deliveries and low bollards will create a physical barrier. At the new play area, rubber pads will be utilized beneath all equipment and a sun shade sail overhead will provide protection. New planters on the border of the entire yard will yield edible, teach-able garden spaces, a portion of this border to house a sandbox play space. [Schematic Design - 2020]
